LA><ART INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
LA><ART is currently looking for the following internships for Spring of 2010. Interns are required to work at least one full day per week during office hours (11am - 6pm, Tues - Sat). LA><ART is committed to helping the student obtain class credit when possible.
Development/Membership Intern:
The Development/Membership intern works closely with the Assistant Director and Curator of Public Art and Programming and the Development Associate to maintain memberships, individual donor files and create fundraising projects for the organization. Tasks include helping to maintain the membership database, formatting correspondence to prospective donors, managing membership renewals, writing and editing letters, and coordinating the design and production of membership materials. Current projects include helping to redefine the committee structures within the donor groups. Additionally, the intern will help conduct research, update the grant calendar, organize grant files, and assemble support materials for grant applications on a deadline. Skills needed for this position include good writing skills, attention to detail and organizational ability to complete projects independently, desire to make connections in the community and a proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and FileMaker Pro. Must feel comfortable communicating directly with members and the general public.
Curatorial/Installation Intern:
Working directly with our curatorial team, the curatorial/installation intern will gain experience in a variety of tasks, including: receiving, organizing, and preparing artist submissions for curatorial committee review; aiding in the installation and site-preparation for upcoming exhibitions; and prepare all types of paperwork and communication generated by each exhibition. Additionally, this position is also intended for those interested in art installation, art handling, conservation and exhibition practices. Skills needed for this position are a proficiency in writing, attention to detail, ability to follow through with long-term projects, working within a committee structure, knowledge of contemporary artistic practices and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel. Photoshop knowledge is a plus. This position would include physical labor.
Marketing/Communication Intern:
The marketing/communications intern would aid the Project Manager in developing press relations, outreach and audience development. Currently, LA><ART is undergoing a project of archiving all recent and past press into one accessible database, and moving forward with a new press plan. Responsibilities would include writing and editing copy for published materials (press releases, announcements, postcards, etc.), maintaining press contact information, creating press kits, and compiling press clips. The intern will also prepare appropriate images for publicity, press contacts and outreach materials. Additionally, the intern would help develop the on-line presence of LA><ART, and update the website, Facebook page, and Twitter feed. Skills needed for this position are a proficiency in writing, attention to detail, eagerness in making connections in the community, well-organized, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel. Website and design background would be a plus.
